String

What it does

One string. One pure tone. Every gesture.

String is the free starter from Quiver. One oscillator with selectable waveforms (sine, triangle, saw, square), a Serum-style asymmetric phase bend that turns clean shapes into growling asymmetric ones, a soft saturator, ADSR, a mono toggle for the lead patches. That's the whole signal path.

The point of a synth this small isn't what it can do at the dial - it's what it makes you do with your hands. Five MPE modulation rings route your fingers into drive, bend, attack speed, chord-spread detune, and a release-velocity lift flare. The keyboard becomes the patch. When you want deeper modulation paths, Reach is one tab away.

MPE routing

Five rings, all per-finger.

Each ring sets how strongly its MPE source modulates its destination. Direction is hardwired so the gestures stay musical at any depth.

Pressure → drive
Lean into a note for grit; lift for a clean tone. Independent per voice.
Slide → bend
The Y-axis under your finger walks the phase bend from clean to asymmetric.
Velocity → attack
Strike harder for a faster onset. Captured at note-on; sets the voice's attack speed for the life of the note.
Pressure → detune
Spreads the held chord across a stable per-channel detune. Soft chord, soft spread; hard chord, wide spread.
Release → lift flare
Note-off velocity drives a transient bend + drive flare on the way out. Soft releases bloom; sharp releases snap.

Requirements

What it runs on, today.

Quiver plugins are built for MPE controllers and tested in real workflows before they ship. The supported set is deliberately narrow right now so every shipped plugin works the way the page describes. Wider coverage comes as each host gets a full pass.

macOS

Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs and Windows are on the roadmap, not yet supported. VST3 and AU.

Tested in

Ableton Live 12. Bitwig Studio, Reaper, and other MPE-aware VST3 / AU hosts should work but are not yet covered by our test pass.

Logic Pro

Should work as an instrument. Not yet covered by our test pass.

Controllers

Built for Osmose, Push 3, Seaboard, LinnStrument, Continuum. The plugin loads without an MPE controller, but the whole point is the per-finger gesture.

Price

Free. Always.

String is free and stays free. It's the starter the rest of the catalogue is measured against - and the easiest way to hear whether MPE belongs in your workflow.
